Diving in Ecuador
Darwin’s Arch and Wolf Island are the signature Galapagos dive sites, known for large schools of scalloped hammerhead sharks, whale shark sightings (especially June to November), and strong currents that reward experienced divers.
Cooler, nutrient-rich waters around the archipelago also bring in Galapagos sharks, silky sharks, mola mola, marine iguanas and Galapagos fur seals, alongside the more familiar green sea turtles.

Country
Ecuador spans the equator on South America’s Pacific coast, and its territory includes the Galapagos Islands, roughly 1,000 km offshore, made famous by Charles Darwin’s study of finches and tortoises. The capital is Quito; the official currency is the US dollar.
For divers, the Galapagos northern islands of Wolf and Darwin are the main draw, reachable almost exclusively by liveaboard out of Baltra or San Cristóbal, and are regularly ranked among the best diving destinations in the world for shark and pelagic encounters.
