Common questions

Do I need to swim well?
Basic swimming skills are required — most agencies ask you to swim 200 m and tread water for 10 minutes. Olympic-level technique is not expected.
What is the age requirement?
Discover Scuba is available from age 10 with parental consent. Junior Open Water — from 10, full Open Water — from 15. No upper limit; a medical clearance may be requested past 45.
How long until I can dive on my own?
After Open Water certification (3–4 days) you can dive worldwide with a buddy. No more instructor supervision required.
How much will it cost in total?
Open Water certification — around $350–500 in popular destinations. Most travellers complete it as part of a 5–7 day diving trip, with daily dives priced separately ($40–80 per dive).
