About
Tokyo Diving Center (TDC) runs wild dolphin-swim and whale-swim tours around Tokyo's outlying islands rather than conventional reef diving. Its main trips take snorkelers to swim with wild Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins off Mikurajima, with tours based from Miyakejima, Mikurajima or Toshima; scuba diving is not permitted at Mikurajima, so all encounters are snorkel-only, and the season runs mid-March to mid-November. TDC also runs a Dolphin Swim School for confined-water and freediving skills, and organizes a seasonal humpback whale swim tour to Tokunoshima in the Amami Islands (typically January and March), plus occasional wild-dolphin trips to Jeep Island, Chuuk, Micronesia. Programmes range from half-day and one-day dolphin-swim outings to multi-day island-based tours, and the centre also sells its own freediving fins, weight belts, masks and snorkels.
