About
Kalpitiya Diving Center is a family-run PADI 5 Star Dive Resort founded in 2002 by Samitha Fernando, whose father Shanth Fernando pioneered diving in Sri Lanka back in 1975. Now in its fourth generation, the family team runs two branches that follow Sri Lanka's monsoon seasons: Kalpitiya on the west coast (November-April), known for drift dives, swim-throughs and dive sites from 6 to 32 metres with Napoleon wrasses and parrotfish, and Trincomalee's Sandy Bay on the east coast (mid-March to end of October), with calm, beginner-friendly waters, coral reefs, wreck dives and seasonal whale and dolphin sightings. The centre offers the full range of PADI courses from beginner to professional level, dives in small groups of up to 5 with an instructor or divemaster, and is approved by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority. Beyond diving, the team runs snorkeling trips, whale and dolphin watching, Wilpattu tours and can arrange local accommodation.
