About
Homestead Crater is a warm-water dive site inside a 400-foot-wide, 55-foot-tall beehive-shaped limestone dome at the historic Homestead resort in Midway, Utah. The geothermal hot spring took roughly 10,000-12,000 years to form and was discovered by settler Simon Schneitter in 1864, who opened Schneitter's Hot Pot Resort there in 1886. In 1995 the Schneitter family's successors developed the Crater into what the resort describes as the only warm-water scuba-diving destination in the continental United States, where visitors can scuba dive, snorkel, or soak in the mineral-rich water. Because time slots fill up quickly, advance booking is recommended.
