Haliotis - Peniche Diving Center

About

Haliotis Peniche is the founding location of the Haliotis dive center group, which also runs bases in Sesimbra, Madeira, Santa Maria, Faial and Cabo Verde. The Peniche center sits next to Supertubos beach, five minutes by van from the harbour where its boats depart. Its main dive ground is the Berlengas archipelago about 10km offshore, a Natural Reserve since 1981 and a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve since 2011, prized for water clarity, gorgonian-covered caverns, wrecks and marine life, including a seasonal appearance of ocean sunfish (Mola mola) at the end of summer. Diving is year-round from two RIBs, Lascaris (12m, twin 350hp Yamaha engines, added to the fleet in 2012) and Necora (9.6m, twin 200hp Yamaha engines). The base has male/female changing rooms with hot showers for up to 60 people, two classrooms, a rental/technical area, a shop carrying brands such as Aqualung, TUSA and Apeks, an on-site training pool (13x6m, sections to 1.3m and 2.8m depth), and a Bauer compressor able to fill air, nitrox, trimix and oxygen, with rebreather support. The center is staffed by a large team holding PADI Course Director, IDC Staff Instructor, OWSI and Divemaster credentials, most also EFR Instructor Trainers, and teaches the full PADI course path from introductory try-dives through Divemaster and the Instructor Development Course, plus nitrox/technical specialties.
