Freediving Sri Lanka is an AIDA-affiliated freediving school based in Ahangama, on Sri Lanka's south coast. It was founded by Niro, an AIDA/Apnea International Instructor Trainer with 25 years of experience in the water, together with Laura, who heads marketing and also teaches yoga for breathwork and relaxation. The wider team includes a dedicated safety diver, a freediving and scuba instructor who runs Residual Volume workshops, and local support staff for equipment care, transport and accommodation. The school runs the full AIDA freediving progression: a one-day Discover Freediving course for complete beginners (AIDA 1 certification), a three-day Learn to Freedive course that takes divers to 20 metres (AIDA 2 certification), an Advanced Freediving course for certified freedivers (AIDA 3), and a Freediving Instructor course for those wanting to teach. Alongside certification courses, the school offers weekly group training and fun-dive sessions with gear and boat transport included, private one-on-one coaching, and a dedicated Wipeout Workshop for surfers that teaches breath-hold and stress-management techniques for handling wipeouts and hold-downs in the surf. Every course keeps a maximum of four students per instructor.
