About
Duikcentrum Leonardo is a PADI dive school and club based in Leeuwarden, in the Dutch province of Friesland, run by owner/instructor Gerrit Koenders together with a small team of divemasters and instructors (including a diving physician on staff). The name is a nod to Leonardo da Vinci, who sketched an early underwater-breathing apparatus concept in 1508. The school teaches the full PADI ladder from a pool-based Discovery dive through Open Water, Advanced, Rescue and Divemaster, plus a wide range of specialty courses (Nitrox, drysuit, night diving, navigation, search & recovery, sidemount, deep diving, buoyancy/trim, fin techniques, drift diving) and Emergency First Response training. It runs regular open-water training dives at Dutch/nearby-border sites (reviews mention Joure) and organizes fully-arranged group dive trips abroad several times a year (site photos reference Bonaire, Curaçao and the Maldives). As of this site snapshot it still displays a dormant COVID-19 closure notice dated February 2021, suggesting parts of the site content have not been refreshed recently, though the shop, course pages, team, and contact details are all current and functioning.
