About
Blue Deep Diving is a PADI Dive Resort (PADI #26593) that has been teaching and guiding divers in Sri Lanka since 1995, founded by Kalu Mavil Priyantha, a diving professional with more than 30 years in the industry. The centre runs two seasonal bases: Hikkaduwa on the south-west coast (open November to April) and Trincomalee on the north-east coast (open April to October), so divers can experience both coastlines from one operator. Trincomalee harbour was a major target during the two World Wars, so the area is known today for excellent wreck diving alongside reef and rock sites, while Hikkaduwa offers coral gardens, a turtle hatchery and a coral sanctuary close to shore. Blue Deep Diving offers the full PADI recreational course range - Discover Scuba Diving, Scuba Diver, Open Water Diver, Advanced Open Water Diver, Rescue Diver, Divemaster and EFR Instructor - taught in English, Russian and French by PADI-certified instructors and divemasters, in small groups of up to five people. Qualified divers can join fun dives, refresher dives, private one-on-one coaching, Adventure Dives and dedicated deep, night and wreck dives across roughly twenty sites around Trincomalee ranging from 6 to 30 metres, including the reefs of Pigeon Island. Beyond diving, the centre arranges snorkelling trips to Pigeon Island and whale and dolphin watching tours off Trincomalee, one of the best places in Sri Lanka to see blue, sperm, humpback and Bryde's whales as well as large pods of dolphins.
