Humpback Swims Vava'u, Tonga

Humpback Swims is a USA-based tour operator (a product of SDL Expeditions) with over 15 years running whale-swim trips out of Vava'u, Tonga, one of the few places where swimming with humpback whales is legally permitted. Groups are limited to 4 or 6 guests, and Tongan law allows only 4 swimmers in the water at a time alongside a licensed local guide, keeping encounters close and uncrowded during the July-to-November season. This is not an overnight liveaboard: guests stay in land-based accommodation, either Flying Annie Moa, an in-town guesthouse with air-conditioned en-suite rooms, or Mystic Sands Resort, a beachfront property with its own pier, and go out daily on small dedicated whale-swim boats for up to 7 hours. Trips are snorkel-only (not scuba) and run as 5-day packages with 4-person or 6-person boats, typically yielding 3 or more exceptional swim days.
