Iran, officially the Islamic Republic of Iran, until 1935 known as Persia, is a country in Southwest Asia. The capital of the country is Tehran. In the west it borders Iraq, in the north-west - Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkey and the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, in the north - Turkmenistan, in the east - Afghanistan and Pakistan.
